Volunteer Support Germany-Austria-Switzerland/Loan devices and equipment

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This page is a translation of de:WP:Förderung/Leihgeräte. It gives an overview of the support programs for volunteers residing in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol. The translation is for information purposes only. Addressed volunteers may use the original page. Last update: March 2019

Loan devices

You can obtain technical equipment for your work in Wikipedia or its sister projects – whether you want to digitize a book for Wikisource, make sound recordings for Wiktionary, or take photographs for Wikipedia Commons. The only requirement for this is active and regular participation, usually determined based on the right to vote in de-Wikipedia.

Approach

To borrow equipment, contact the appropriate Wikimedia organization (see contact below) with the following information. If you need technology that is not listed, it can be specially purchased if necessary or provided through a third party.

  • Your first and last name and username
  • The required technology (precise description, incl. accessories)
  • The project or event for which you require the technology and what results you expect
  • When and for how long you will need the technology
  • The address to which the technology is to be sent

You do not necessarily need to have prior experience with specific cameras or devices to borrow them. Don’t be afraid to try things out! All devices are insured and you will not incur any costs. Please note the following loan guidelines, however:

  • The equipment must be handled with care and returned at the agreed upon time
  • Files that have been created using loaned technology have to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and furnished with the categories “Supported by Wikimedia Deutschland"/ Supported by Wikimedia Österreich / "Supported by Wikimedia CH"
  • Please send a link to the results to the appropriate Wikimedia organization as soon as they are available
Device list

The following devices can be loaned out (please expand the respective devices to the right):
