Abstract ملخص

In 2017 and 2018, Wikimedia Armenia organized training courses for Armenian teachers and journalists from the Armenian Diaspora. In this training, there were 15 participants from the Armenian community of Syria. After returning to Aleppo these participants continued to collaborate actively with Wikimedia Armenia and disseminate Wikimedia Movement and editing on Wikimedia projects at the schools and cultural associations in Aleppo. As a result, these organizations requested Wikipedia Armenia to organize a similar training in Syria in order to involve more volunteers. This was implemented in the scope of “Western Armenian Wikipedia” project of Wikimedia Armenia with the support of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Armenian Cultural Association in Aleppo.

This request was very interesting, though challenging because of the threat of war and all the obstacles and barriers to all kinds of communication. With joint efforts the organizers and participants overcame these obstacles and joined the global Wikimedia movement.

In this presentation I will summarize:

  1. Workshops and trainings held in 2017 and 2018,
  2. My visit to Aleppo schools in 2017, introduction to Wikipedia,
  3. Wikipedia Summer training in 2018 at the Armenian Cultural Association in Aleppo, with participation of 25 students and teachers.

في عامي 2017 و2018 نظمت ويكيميديا أرمينيا دورات تدريبية للمدرسين والصحفيين لشتات الأرمن. لقد شارك حوالي 15 مشارك من المهتمين من المجتمع الأرمني في سوريا. بعد عودتهم إلى حلب واصل هؤلاء المشاركون التعاون بنشاط مع ويكيميديا أرمينيا ونشر حركة ويكيميديا والتحرير على مشاريع ويكيميديا في المدارس والجمعيات الثقافية في حلب . ونتيجة لذلك ، طلبت هذه المنظمات من ويكيبيديا أرمينيا تنظيم تدريب مماثل في سوريا من أجل إشراك المزيد من المتطوعين. وقد تم تنفيذ ذلك في نطاق مشروع ويكيبيديا "Western Armenian Wikipedia" من ويكيميديا أرمينيا بدعم من مؤسسة كالوست كولبنكيان والجمعية الثقافية الأرمنية في حلب.

  3. تدريب ويكيبيديا صيفي 2018، في الجمعية الثقافية للأرمن في مدينة حلب، بمشاركة 25 مشارك من طلاب والمدرسين المهتمين.
What will attendees take away from this session? ماذا سيستفيد الحضور من هذه الجلسة؟
  • Syria is now having hard times because of the consequences of war and persistent military conflicts. I will explain how to work with the communities living in a military conflict with lots of threats. What are the main challenges that organizer of such a training might face.
  • There are lots of ethnic minority communities all around the Arabic countries. With the example of the Armenian community of Syria, I will introduce how one can involve them in the Wikimedia movement.
  • After any event it is hard to retain and work with the participants especially when they live in other countries. Participants will get several tips on how they can work with the editors and volunteers remotely.
  1. تواجه سورية الآن أوقاتاً عصيبة بسبب آثار الحرب والصراعات العسكرية المستمرة. سأشرح كيفية العمل مع المجتمعات التي تعيش في نزاع عسكري مع الكثير من التهديدات. ما هي التحديات الرئيسية التي قد يواجهها منظم هذا التدريب.
  2. هناك الكثير من مجتمعات الأقليات العرقية في جميع أنحاء البلدان العربية. مع مثال المجتمع الأرمني في سوريا ، سوف أعرض كيف يمكن إشراكهم في حركة ويكيميديا.
  3. بعد أي حدث من الصعب الاحتفاظ والعمل مع المشاركين خاصة عندما يعيشون في بلدان أخرى. سيحصل المشاركون على العديد من النصائح حول كيفية العمل مع المحررين والمتطوعين عن بُعد.
