How to Build Technical Capacity for the Arabic Community
- Abstract ملخص
Wiki communities often have very specific use cases, but also face similar technical challenges. Technical contributors play an important role in addressing those challenges by building tools, modules, gadgets and bots, helping with local configurations, translating between technical and non-technical language, reporting bugs, answering questions and much more.
Technical contributors give a great deal of support to editors. But what if technical contributors were not that many?
What kind of support is needed to strengthen technical knowledge & skills in the Arabic Wikimedia communities?
How can we ensure knowledge transfer from one wiki to another and build up more cross-wiki collaboration?
How can communities adapt best practices or technical solutions (bots, tools and templates) from others, and not reinvent the wheel?
In this workshop, we will discuss the technical challenges of the Arabic Wikimedia communities, come up with ideas to build local technical capacity, and increase and share skills and knowledge across wikis.

يستعمل الناس مواقع الويكي بطرق معروفة ولأغراض محددة، لكنهم كثيرا ما يجدون نفس المصاعب التقنية، التي يحاول المساهمون التقنيون معالجتها حيث ينشؤون الأدوات والوحدات والإضافات والبوتات، ويساعدون على ضبط الإعدادات المحلية، والترجمة بين اللغة التقنية وغير التقنية، والإبلاغ عن الأخطاء، والإجابة على الأسئلة وغيرها، مقدمين قدرا كبيرا من الدعم للمحررين.
ولكن ماذا لو كان عدد المساهمين التقنيين غير كاف؟
وما شكل الدعم اللازم لتعزيز المعرفة والمهارات التقنية عند مستخدمي مواقع ويكيميديا العربية؟
وكيف نضمن نقل المعارف وزيادة التعاون بين الويكيات؟
وكيف يمكن للمستخدمين نقل أفضل الممارسات أو الحلول التقنية (البوتات والأدوات والقوالب) وتطبيقها، بدل عناء إنشائها من الصفر؟
نناقش في هذه ورشة المصاعب التقنية في مواقع ويكيميديا العربية، وسبل بناء القدرات التقنية المحلية وزيادة وتبادل المهارات والمعارف بين مواقع ويكي.
