WikiClassics User Group/Reports/2021

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

The WikiClassics User Group was recognized as a Wikimedia user group on May 9, 2019. This report outlines our accomplishments and activities between August 2021 and 15th July 2022.

Written by User:Alexmar983, User:Epìdosis with contribution from User:Jahl de Vautban and User:Mizardellorsa

Introduction[edit]

The in-person activities continued to be difficult because of the COVID-19 pandemics, since Italy has been one of the countries with the most rigid rules.

Social media, communication and outreach[edit]

  • We have created the account Instagram.
  • On Facebook we have also created the page, linked to the users community group.
  • As a result, the standard trifecta (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) is completed. We were mostly using the robust Twitter account, but if you scroll the posts, you will see that a standard layout is now available for future communication also on Facebook and Instagram (the shape is squared on purpose), because we plan to use it frequently.

Third parties[edit]

  • Project with Wikimedia Italia for the creation of the WikiProject Epigraphy on Wikidata.
  • First contacts with the user group about cultural heritage: we were supposed to have literacy lessons about cultural heritage, but they were never scheduled. We will try again in 2022-2023.

Group and WMF activities[edit]

The group currently involves 40 users.

We had our first online meeting, and we plan do it more frequently.

Our involvement in WMF activities is partial, mostly because we have to optimize regular meetings to deliver a meaningful feedback. However, we structured our presence at the next WikiSummit properly, for example, so this is going to improve.

We plan to select new main UG contacts by the end of this year or at the beginning of 2023.
