Abstract (in about 300 words)

Wikimedia is a useful tool for medical education and health awareness. However, its potential has not yet been explored deeply in India. In this presentation, I will talk about the existing efforts to enrich Wikipedia's medical content and the impact of a few popular medical articles on shaping the health awareness of people in India. I will focus on the Med-GLAM project, WEP : BM Medical college and Translation Task Force to highlight the existing work done in medicine on Wikipedia. I hope to shed some light on why it is important to have good quality articles related to medicine and healthcare on Indian language Wikipedias for increasing health literacy among people.
