WikiConference Kerala is a significant initiative to bolster the Open Knowledge & Wikimedia ecosystem in Kerala, India, with a particular focus on the Malayalam language. The conference is strategically timed to coincide with the Malayalam Wikipedia's birthday in December. The conference not only celebrates the achievements of Malayalam Wikipedia but also aims to inspire more individuals to contribute to Wikimedia projects & Open Knowledge Initiative, thereby enriching the digital landscape in regional languages in Kerala. WikiConference Kerala represents a vital effort to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among Public and FOSS enthusiasts in Kerala.

Objectives and Activities

The primary goal of WikiConference Kerala is to support and promote the Wikimedia projects & Open Knowledge within the region, enhancing the availability and quality of content in Wikimedia projects. The conference serves as a platform for:

• Networking: Bringing together individuals and organisations that share a common interest in Wikimedia projects and open knowledge.
• Workshops: Conducting hands-on sessions focused on various aspects of Wikimedia, including editing Wikipedia, using Wikidata, and understanding structured open data.
• Community Building: Strengthening ties among local Wikimedians and related communities, such as OpenStreetMap Kerala and OpenData Kerala.
