Report on the Participation of Iwuala Lucy at WikiIndaba 2023 in Agadir, Morocco

Nigerian WikiIndaba Attendees

Participating in this 7th Edition of the WikiIndaba is one of the highlights of my 2023 participation in the Wiki Community - Thanks to the Igbo Wikimedians User Group Scholarship. This is my first time of participating in a general Wikimedia gathering and I am glad to have been a part of it. It was an opportunity to meet and interact one-on-one with the amazing individuals behind the screen. The sessions were very enlightening and I benefited quite a great deal from those that I attended.

Participation

Co-presenting during the Grant Session

As a first timer, I do not only have the opportunity to attend the sessions, I also had the opportunity to co-present in some of the sessions where I got to share insights and these include:

• A panel discussion on How the new campaign tools can help your Wikimedia events where I get to share insights from the perspective of an organizer on the usage of new campaign tool.
• A Wiki Loves Monuments Organizers Q&A:, which I co-presenting with Ciell. Sharing insights and answering questions with regards to organizing a Wiki Loves Monument Campaign.
• Grant Session where I shared insights on what is considered as an outcome in the review of proposals, pointing out important elements expected to be seen and implemented in a given project.

Outcome

The unison and sense of openness is one of the key elements I observed during the conference. There is always a welcoming smile for everyone thereby creating a sense of comfort among both the first-timers (like myself) and the experienced Wikimedians.

Impact

Uniting and celebrating with fellow Wikimedians

The impact of the conference was greatly felt on my whole perspective as a Wikimedian. Getting to learn and share from the various tales of other Wikimedians and the great and amazing works they have been engaged on in their various communities, has rejuvenated me to strive for more productive result that would greatly and deeply develop and grow my community. One of the most impactful aspects of WikiIndaba 2023 I observed was the sense of community and solidarity that was palpable throughout the conference – never did I feel left out as a first-timer! It was truly a space where everyone’s voice was valued, and where there was a strong spirit of collaboration and support. I left the conference feeling inspired and energized, with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to continue contributing to the Wikimedia projects in my capacity.
