I was excited to be part of this year's Wiki Indaba 2023 conference as a scholarship recipient and a speaker. This was my second time attending a Wiki Indaba in person after joining the second one in Accra, Ghana in 2017. Joining this year's Wiki Indaba was for me an opportunity to meet old friends who we have been working on numerous projects together.

In was an insightful three day conference with a lot of learning from colleague Wikimedians across the African region. The sessions I joined as well where all very impactful and I was excited about the relationship and partnerships I am forming from participating in this year's Wiki Indaba.

Outcome

What significant learning or outcome do you take away from your participation?

One of the significant outcomes for me came from the discussions that was had with Wikipedia Administrators. It gave me a lot of perspectives on how to help community members moving forward around issues when editing English Wikipedia which happens a lot in our community.

I got an opportunity to listen to some of the pressing issues facing African Wikimedians during this Indaba. It's going to help me a lot in some of the activities and actions I will be taking in the coming years.

Another learning outcome for me was that even though Sub-Saharan Africa had the highest Let's Connect participants there were still people in our session who had not heard about it. For me that meant communicating more intentional about the things we do around Let's Connect.

Impact

What impact the conference had on you and community plans, and what actions will you undertake to share learnings with your community?

The conference made a significant impact on me especially with regards to the Wikipedia editing processes and how to help newbies come to terms with it.
