| Abstract:
In the digital age, visibility and representation are critical in shaping public perceptions and narratives. Wikipedia, as one of the most visited websites globally, plays a significant role in this process. However, there remains a substantial gender gap in the coverage and representation of women journalists on the platform. This proposal by Women Do News Organization aims to address this disparity by enhancing the visibility of women journalists from Africa and beyond on Wikipedia. Objectives: 1. Highlight the Gender Gap: Provide a comprehensive overview of the current representation of women journalists on Wikipedia, focusing on the disparities and their implications. 2. Showcase Success Stories: Highlight the achievements of prominent women journalists in Africa, showcasing their contributions to the media landscape and the importance of their representation on Wikipedia. 3. Develop Strategies for Inclusion: Present practical strategies for increasing the presence and visibility of women journalists on Wikipedia, 5. Engage the Community:Foster a collaborative environment by engaging with the Wiki Indaba community to discuss challenges, share best practices, and build a network of advocates for gender equity in media representation. Conclusion: By enhancing the visibility of women journalists on Wikipedia, we can ensure that their stories, achievements, and contributions are adequately recognized and celebrated. Women Do News Organization is committed to bridging the gender gap in media representation and looks forward to collaborating with the Wiki Indaba community to achieve this goal. Together, we can make a lasting impact on how women journalists are perceived and valued in the digital age. |
