Abstract:

The session will serve as a guide to some of the most useful tools that enhance the editing functionality and productivity of wiki volunteers The tools include;
Wikipedia citation/link tools‎: Various tools enable adding citations and external links on Wikipedia to be more time-efficient and productive such as Citation Hunt, Citoid, Web2Cit, OABOT, Citer.

Wikipedia contributor analysis tools:
Such as Wikiscan, Deep Wiki Inspector, Xtools etc shall help event organisers and editors to analyse their edits and other campaign contributors’ edits.

Wikipedia categorisation tools:
Such as;
HotCat; helps registered Wikimedia users to easily remove, change, and add categories to Wikipedia pages.
PetScan is an external tool that searches an article category (and its subcategories) according to specified criteria to find articles, stubs, images, and categories.

Tool Forge:
Toolforge provides web servers, data access, job management, and other features to help developers maintain tools and bots. Tool forge tools include;
Verify is a tool that helps with the verification of English-language Wikipedia articles by comparing information in the article against the information in its citations and external links.
Pageviews Analysis is a suite of tools to visualise pageview data of Wikimedia Foundation wikis.
Event Metrics enable organisers of events like edit-a-thons and content drives to get metrics about those events to understand and demonstrate the scale and impact of their contributions.

Editing tools:
Tools which don't assist with specific kinds of edits, but simplify whatever edits the user is making. These tools include;
QuickWikiEditor; Helps to make little edits to wiki articles without having to leave or reload the page.
WikiEd is a full-featured, in-browser text editor that adds enhanced text processing functions to Wikipedia and other MediaWiki edit pages.
WikiFundi is a freely licensed offline wiki editing environment based on MediaWiki. It facilitates wiki-based teaching and content creation where internet access and electricity are expensive, intermittent, or unreliable.
AutoWikiBrowser – (Windows platform) Makes repetitive, tedious edits such as spell checking or category moves faster and easier.
Wikipedia:Correct typos in one click- a tool that identifies typos within English Wikipedia and gives an interface to correct them easily.

Attendees will be proficient in utilising essential Wikipedia tools to:

  1. Enhance their editing efficiency and streamline their workflow.
  2. Significantly improve the quality and accuracy of their Wikipedia contributions.
  3. Foster effective collaboration with other Wikipedians.
  4. Confidently explore advanced editing techniques to become Wikipedia power users.
  5. Shall help event organisers and editors to analyse their edits and other campaign contributors’ edits.
