Affiliation: Wikimedia Foundation (Trust and Safety team) Session track(s): Movement Governance
Abstract:

The Universal code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) is a global community group dedicated to providing an equitable and consistent implementation of the UCoC. The U4C, to do its work efficiently, as mandated by the U4C charter and the UCoC Enforcement guidelines will have to collaborate with the community - particularly communities with no governance structures or adjudication processes.

The committee is now set up and functional, thus, this session will be a good opportunity to highlight the committee’s goals, functions, and processes to African communities. Since the U4C will be in its early operational stages at this time, this session will be a good opportunity to discuss and gather insights and input from community members on how they envision the U4C will impact and serve their communities. This will help shape and influence the work and impact of the U4C.

Audience : basic
Mode: In-person
Special requirements: none
How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region?

The U4C will primarily be useful to small and medium-sized projects and communities that do not have existing governance structures and processes - and many African projects fall within this category. Thus, the session will particularly be useful to Indaba attendees in the following ways;

  1. Participants will learn more about the U4C's goals, structure, processes and workflow which will be useful for working and collaborating with the U4C.
  2. Participants will have an opportunity to shape and influence the U4C's work by providing input.
  3. Participants will also gain a general overview of how to set up governance processes and structures as well as an awareness of the Trust and Safety team's work and policies.
