Abstract:

On the tenth anniversary of the Wiki Indaba Conference 2024, themed "United in Diversity," I am delighted to share the participatory experience of Wikimedians in the Maghreb region and diaspora, which aims to address the pressing issue of climate change and its consequences through Wikimedia projects in the Maghreb. This program brings together Wikimedians from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, and Mauritania to address climate change through collaborative Wikimedia projects.

The Maghreb faces severe climate challenges, including desertification and drought. Our campaign aims to increase active users in the region, encouraging contributions in languages such as Arabic, Moroccan Derja, Tachelhit, Shawiya, and Kabyle. We have conducted workshops, edit-a-thons, conferences, and webinars to engage new and existing users.

The campaign exemplifies the power of unity in diversity, enhancing global access to scientific data and technology, and fostering collaboration for a sustainable future.
