Background: Adolescent age is very critical and important stage in the life of young growing girls. This developmental stage is marked with anatomical and physiological changes. One of such features is puberty which are characterised with presenting features like menstrual cycle among others. Objectives: The pilot project is geared toward providing free sanitary pads to young adolescent girls (numbering about fourteen (14) on an average of five sanitary pads per person during menses in Bama/Gwoza internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps, Abuja, Nigeria through the construction of sanitary pads bank, (in a form of locker) for the period of six months. Also to educate the young girls on personal hygiene through platform of health club in the school. Methods: the sanitary pads bank (locker) will have fourteen compartments with unique code assigned to each compartment as means of identification. The young adolescent girls will be given a code for easy accessibility of the sanitary pads. Each of the compartments of the sanitary pads bank will be stocked with five pads per month for the period of six months. More so, a teacher of the school in the IDPs camp will be assigned to keep adequate recording and monitoring of the use of sanitary pads. Results: the project will be of immense benefit to the health of the young adolescents girls during menses by ensuring they stay clean, maintain proper personal hygiene practice. More so, it will help save and cut cost on the part of the management of the IDPs camp as well as guardians of the young girls in buying sanitary pad. Conclusion: The pilot project will go a long way in addressing the pressing health needs of the young girls during puberty, making them stay focus in their academic, serve as huge leverage to the management of IDPs camp.
