- Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)
Across the globe, there are a lot of festivals. Each festival has its history and origin. Festivals are commemorated to mark historical events in the past. During festivals, people show their culture, arts and heritage which may be shared with others or unique.
The largest online encyclopedia covers festival but not as elaborate as it should be. We believe festivals are also ways of telling people’s story and hence there is the need to devote a project that will capture these moments year in year out since festivals which are a subset of culture is dynamic.
Wiki Loves Festivals will be an audiovisual and writing project that will seek to capture festivals every year. This will accept contributions from volunteers about pictures, videos, sound bites and underlying history surrounding festivals across the globe. We hope to pilot this project in Ghana which has different festivals all year round. Once this is successful it will be replicated across the African continent and eventually on a global scale.
This presentation will seek to introduce this proposed project to participants, seek their views on how to make this a better project within the Wikimedia movement.

- this is a fascinating idea! In Greece there are many festivals as well, and their immense cultural aspects are not recorded well enough even on Greek Wikipedia. I would love to see this happening:)--Saintfevrier (talk) 20:33, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
