Description :

African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) got a grant from the Wikimedia Foundation to train 300 librarians in at least 30 African countries using the adapted OCLC curriculum Wikipedia + Libraries: Better Together. More than 300 librarians have been trained and some are still going through the course. The milestones attained, the challenges of training information professionals in large numbers, the success stories of the project, collaborations and community building as well as lessons for African wikimedians who wish to embark on running trainings across borders will be highlighted.

The Panel discussion will interrogate: - Why Wikipedia in African Libraries course? Are GLAM activities not enough? - What have we done so far? Are there noticeable outcomes? - How has the course changed the Wikimedia Community landscape in Africa? Any success stories?
