This page is for the annual report of Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group. It includes activities from June 2023 - May 2024.

Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group is a community of Filipino volunteer Wikimedians advocating free knowledge through the different Wikimedia projects; promoting the use of these projects in education and equal gender representation. We strived to empower communities through project development, support global human rights advocacy, and host campaigns promoting the open knowledge ecosystem.

Monthly Activities[edit]

June 2023[edit]

  • Monthly Members Meet-up. June 10, 2023. Volunteers and officers of the group have discussed future projects, ideas for partnerships, setting up an office, and essential supplies and equipment to purchase. With the Community Fund being approved, the targets were specified, specifically in the scope of wiki projects, and participants were projected to join the events.
  • WAP Community Learning Hub Development. June 22-26, 2023. The office was rented shortly after receiving the Community Fund. It is not limited to the office staff and volunteers of the group. The space was intended to be a learning hub for visitors. Reading materials, laptops, audio-visual equipment, flyers, and brochures regarding Wikimedia projects and the Wikimedia community are available. It has a reading area capable of accommodating at least 10 visitors, a spare room for training, and a conference room where monthly meetings and emergency meetings are conducted.
  • Office Policies and Guidelines. June 29, 2023. In order to have a smooth flow of day-to-day activity, the board, together with other volunteers, has drafted policies and guidelines with regards to the opening and closing schedule of the office, equipment that can be borrowed outside the office, the creation of registration forms, and application forms for visitors intending to join the organization. The policies and guidelines were summarized and made available on the bulletin board as guides for everyday users.

July 2023[edit]

  • Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2023 Campaign. July 8, 2023. Wiki Advocates Philippines Office Launch / Membership Renewal. The first campaign conducted by the group is the Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos wherein editors have provided pictures for articles that have no image available. Since we have targeted developing two Wikiquote projects, the Tagalog and Central Bikol, The edit-a-thon was composed of two sessions. It has also been a venue for other volunteers to take lead into projects like this, training them to be future campaign organizers. Read more on our Diff blog.
  • Panel interview for Admin Associate position. July 12, 2023. With the number of visitors growing, the group opted to hire staff that would handle accommodating them, assisting them on borrowing equipment tracking volunteer hours, and other office services. The board has served as pa anel for the interview conducted. There are a total of 5 applicants who have submitted their resumes.
  • Let's Connect Learning Clinic with Wiki Advocates Philippines Volunteers. July 14, 2023. Members of the group were asked to register as participants in the Let's Connect to gain access to skills development and gain experience in interacting with Wikimedians around the globe. During this session, they've actively participated by providing answers and feedback in the chat and in Phadlet. An evaluation form was given to the participants after the event. A total of 12 volunteers have their Let's Connect profiles already.

  • WAP Capacity Building. On September 4, 2023, the Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group held its 4th monthly meeting at Sierra's Cota Resort, Minalabac, Camarines Sur, Philippines. We welcomed three new members, the top three editors for the second session of the WPWP Campaign 2023.
  • Women@Work Photowalk. On September 15, 2023, Women@Work Photowalk was organized by the team. This campaign involved women working at the different sector of the community.
