Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photo contest organized by the Wikimedia community to document cultures in different regions of the world with an emphasis on the theme of folk culture Folklore theme. The project will also host an edit-a-thon challenge focused on the folklore related articles/items in Ghana on Dagbani Wikipedia and Wikidata. To submit your entries, please visit this page.

Concept

This photography contest is focused on folk culture of different regions on categories, such as but not limited to, folk dances, folk music, folk activities, folk games, folk cuisine, folk wear, folklore and tradition, including ballads, folktales, fairy tales, legends, traditional song and dance, folk plays, games, seasonal events, calendar customs, folk arts, folk religion, mythology etc. You can check out some other suggestions and examples in this Category page.

Since 2019, the basic aim of the photo contest is to upload photos on human cultural diversity on Wikimedia Commons. This year the contest will take place for the second time in Ghana, and the first time in the northern regions of Ghana.

For the edit-a-thon contest, the article must match with the theme. You are free to choose an article from our working list or pick up a topic of your own provided it is in relation to the main theme.

Photo Contest

  1. Capture images or videos of any Folklore related topic from Ghana.
  2. Images must be of high quality.
  3. You must be the copyright holder or have the permission to upload the image for the contest.
  4. Upload images on before March 28 2021.

Wikipedia

  1. Create/translate a Dagbani Wikipedia article of any folklore related topic.
  2. The article must be of readable prose of about 100 words or roughly 3 sentences.
  3. The Dagbani Wikipedia article must have at least 4 references.

Wikidata

Wikidata items must have the following:

  1. English Label -->
  2. English Description -->
  3. Dagbani Label -->
  4. Dagbani Description -->
  5. At least 4 references.
  6. Instance of (P31)

Prizes

  1. Best Photo Prize - GHS 400
  2. Best Contributor - GHS 300
  3. 2nd Best contributor - GHS 200
  4. Best Wikipedia contributor: T-shirt + Wiki souvenir
  5. Best Wikidata contributor: T-shirt souvenir
