Wiki Photo Workshop was a teaching event aimed on increasing quality of photographs uploaded by Wikimedians of Uzbekistan. This was the first event of this type in Central Asia and it was scheduled for April 6 and 7, 2024. Workshop happened in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in the Youth Art Center at 2, Mustakillik avenue.

Beginning of the workshop was at 13:00 (UTC+5).

What it was

Our workshop contained 4 separated courses aimed to develop different sets of photographic skills. All of the courses contained 1 hour lecture part and 1 hour practical part where participants could use their newly obtained skills and present their works to trainers for evaluation.

First course, «Basics of photographing» was planned to explain to participants the basic terms of photography and, that is more important, how do these terms apply to somebody's own photos. Participants learned about lights, composition, focus, diaphragm, exposure and other parameters and conditions of making a photo and discovered how to improve the result in some difficult conditions. Trainer for this course was Elena Zdanovich — Wikimedia photography enthusiast from Ivanovo, Russia, jury member of Wiki Loves Earth and Wiki Loves Monuments in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Second course, «Arhitectural photography» was aimed to form the understanding what is important when your object is a building or a small architectural form. Participants got knowledge about perspective, angles, details and other aspects of architectural photograph. Trainer for this course was Yekaterina Borisova — long-time Wikimedian and photographer from Saint Petersburg, Russia, former jury member of Wiki Loves Earth in Russia.

Third course, «Nature photography» formed participants ability to find excelent views of nature objects to capture. Participants learned about timings, macro and landscape shots and common practices while taking pictures outdoors. Trainer for this course was Islam Mirsaitov — profesional award-winning nature photographer from Almaty, Kazakhstan, jury member of Wiki Loves Earth in Kazakhstan.

Fourth course, «Images processing» taught participants how to process images using common processing tools. They learned how to make a messy photo better, how to create more fascinating and breathetaking pictures using nothing but your camera and computer. Trainer for this course was Nikolai Bulykin — long-time Wikimedian, award-winning photography enthusiast from Saint Petersburg, Russia, jury member of Wiki Loves Earth and Wiki Loves Monuments in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

At the end of the workshop every participant should upload at least one photo to Commons to show their skills; this photo will be evaluated by trainers. Afterwards, those who pass the exam will receive sertificates.

Organizers

Workshop was organized by Wiki Loves Central Asia User Group applied as Wikimedia affiliate but still not recognized. Local support was offered by Wikimedians of the Uzbek Language User Group and Youth Affairs Agency of Uzbekistan.
