Organizational Goals[edit]

The Wiki Project Med Foundation is part of a broader network of Wikimedia volunteers, medical advocacy and educational organizations. To the Wikimedia community, we offer resources for volunteers interested in making exceptional contributions toward our mission. These resources include, potentially, money, time, and access to networks and related materials. The purpose of our organization is to provide more capacity to our medical content contributors than we would have as individuals. To the broader world of medicine, we offer expertise on the inner workings of Wikimedia projects, putting human faces to our online projects. We help translate the latest evidence into high-quality content that is read around the world.

The Wiki Project Med Foundation has significant capacity around the world, but there is more work needed to make the best use of this capacity. Our goal for the next two years is to work on capacity building, including meeting the criteria established for Movement Organizations. Our KPIs for organizational development:

  • Number of board and membership meetings (goal is to have at least one board meeting every other month - 6 meetings per year, and one membership meeting per year)
  • Number of members and supporters
  • Number of donors
  • Amount of documentation of our work, including templates for presentations
  • Established workflows for basic organizational operations such as elections
  • Established policies for governance and financial matters, including processes for synchronous and asynchronous decision-making by the board and members
  • Establishment of a planning process
  • Recognition as a Wikimedia thematic organization

In making progress toward our organizational development KPIs, it will give us more capacity to support programs that work toward our mission. Part of the board’s work will be conducted via committees, that will also involve participation of other volunteers & members interested in working on a specific topic.
