During the First Wikimedia Philippines Quarterly Meeting on June 19, 2010, the general membership approved the constitution of a steering committee to determine the organization's readiness for hosting Wikimania 2012 in the Philippines. Wikimania is an annual international Wikimedia conference held in various cities throughout the world, and since it was first started in 2005, hundreds of Wikimedians from across the world attend every year.
The committee will determine the viability of a Wikimania bid for 2012 in the Philippines based on the following criteria:
- Organizational readiness
- Community readiness
- Locational readiness
- Financial implications
The committee is currently composed of three people, and we would be happy to take people in who are willing to help. Bid preparations may be done here on Meta.
On the Second Quarterly Meeting on September 25, 2010, the whole membership body agreed to put this project on hold.
