Wiki Women in Tech is a group of women volunteers, from all over, who are passionate about contributing to Wikimedia tools and projects through creating and improving technical documentation with snippets of code, fixing and maintaining Wikimedia tools and gadgets, documenting technical processes in communities to provide more support, developing open-source tools for the community, provide support in communities to help with localization of their wiki interfaces, training prospective groups of female developers and motivating their efforts.


Objectives[edit]

Technical support

  • Create and improve technical documentation for tools with sample snippets of code;
  • Fix and maintain Wikimedia tools and gadgets;
  • Fix bugs on Wikimedia projects;
  • Help communities to create anti-spam filters;
  • Document technical processes in communities to provide more support to communities;
  • Gain experience and develop bots;
  • Develop open-source tools for the community and provide support in communities to support localization of their wiki interfaces;
  • Train prospective groups of female developers and motivate their efforts;
  • Contribute to the development of MediaWiki and its extensions;


Outreach

  • Enable the acquisition of basic to intermediate knowledge of technical skills in relation to Wikimedia tools and projects for women.
  • Improve the technical knowledge(code skills) of women through training sessions, meetups and hackathons to increase the presence of women involved in the technical aspect of Wikimedia tools and projects.
  • Mentoring and supporting women interested in contributing to Wikimedia projects through programs such as Outreachy and Google Summer of Code.
  • Create technical articles, videos and code snippets on tasks to enhance understanding and transfer of knowledge.
