Wiki and Health articles in Nigeria/Overview
Appearance
This project aims to create awareness and bridge the knowledge gap of health content in Nigeria. This will lead to a higher rate of youth involvement in health advocacy, bridge the existing content gap on Wikipedia and Wikidata, and increase the number of well-informed youths actively engaged in fighting preventable diseases in their communities.
Main Approaches or strategies:
- Physical and Virtual Trainings: The participants will be trained to identify and create notable and qualitative articles. Most of the health articles peculiar to Nigeria are stubs. They have low readability and are without images. The participants would be trained on how to successfully contribute to them, new editors will take up this task to keep them occupied and showcase their learning skills. However, the editing will be closely monitored to avoid vandalism. Weekly training will also be included in the project to review the quality of edits contributed during the project
- Edit-a-thon: To prevent vandalism and tampering with articles, only experienced editors will be allowed to create new articles and this will be under close monitoring.
- Translate-a-thon: with the help of facilitators from both the Hausa and Yoruba communities, the articles related to health in Nigeria will be translated into the two languages by the editors.
- WPWP: After training editors on how to upload on Common, Pictures will be uploaded on Common and pages on Wikipedia without images will be fixed.
