The idea of Wikimania 2022 in Tunisia was to bring the community together in a friendly setting to mark the start of activities after the interruption caused by Covid-19.

Once the call was made through our group's usual communication channels, we began to receive responses nationally and even internationally.

Unfortunately, only three members of the board of Wikimedia Tunisia user group responded favorably, one of whom is part of the international organizing team and another member who stepped down at the last minute. That said, we prepared the event by projecting the arrival of 15 people but in the final, only 9 people were able to participate.

Why Monastir?

[edit]

The city of Monastir was proposed because it hosted the first edition of [[WikiArabia/2015 |WikiArabia Conference in 2015]], and it was proposed to host Wikimania. Also Monastir was a good place in the center of Tunisia between major cities of the country.

Outcome

[edit]

The goal of bringing the community together and discussing was achieved, although the absence of the members of the executive office limited the discussions a little.

We have planned our action plan for the coming period by choosing the themes of our actions, namely education, GLAM projects and Wiki loves contests.

We were able to represent our group and our country during the session dedicated to us.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
10 participants will receive hardware support Yes We already have 10 different participants to the event, and they all had hardware support that they used in the conference.
10-20 participants will receive data packages to support their participation at Wikimania Yes The internet package let the participants attend the sessions and participate in the main room of the event and also outside it. Since the conference is not in the local time, Participants could attend the sessions as they wished.
10-20 participants will receive domestic travel reimbursement Yes We had participants from Tunis, Sfax, Sousse and Monastir all of participants who are coming outside Monastir recieved a reimbursment of their travel expenses. One participant from Algeria accepted to receive their travel reimbursement from Tunis, but because of healthy issue, they didn't make it!

Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well? Having new people joining the movement and speaking about the future projects in Wikimedia TN User Group. The session dedicated to our group was also appreciated by the participants because it highlighted the specificity of our group and the actions that we will develop in the future.
  • What did not work so well? Communication about the event. A lot of participants declined their participation in the last moments.
