Activities[edit]

How will the funding requested support your community’s participation at Wikimania?
Please review following eligible activities and expenses below, and write below any that will be included in your activities.

  • Childcare services (or similar family services) to support Wikimania participation
  • Data packages to distribute to Wikimania participants
  • Administrative or operational costs for to distribute funds to community members, such as transfer fees
  • Small hardware expenses to support access (such as webcams, microphones, head/earphones)
Note: Requests for computers, laptops, tablets, and other personal devices are not eligible.
  • Translation services for a Wikimania session
  • Video production support for pre-recorded Wikimania sessions (such as equipment or space)
  • In-person meetups that coincide with Wikimania activities (food, beverage, meeting space)
  • Printed artwork, conference swag/merchandise for event participants
  • In consultation with the Wikimedia UK community a 2 day schedule has been created to enhance the opportunity to be together (in person and virtually) and share in the Wikimania 2022 schedule. Funding will enable event space, delivery of a virtual programme, food and beverages for those attending in person and merchandise for all attendees. The programme includes the opportunity for co-working spaces which will be pivoted for Wikimania session viewing depending on the finalised programme. To engage those new to the community and support established members there will be introduction to editing and advanced training sessions on Friday, with lightning talks on Saturday which will be available in person and virtually. In addition we will be offering 1-2-1 in person and virtual Wiki Clinics with community experts. There will be spaces for meeting and networking alongside food and beverages, each evening culminating with social drinks and on Saturday we will host the annual Wikimedia UK Awards, celebrating together the contribution of community members. All participants will receive swag and a virtual goody bag of extended digital content to support their wiki development and showcase the breadth of interest across the Wikimedia UK community.

Please provide a summary explaining the following:

Outcomes[edit]

Please provide a range or estimate for the number of participants the funding will support.
It is OK if this is estimate is based on limited information, but we want to have an idea of how your activities will support community participation in Wikimania. Some examples:

  • 3-5 participants will receive childcare support to support their participation at Wikimania.
  • 10 participants will receive hardware support
  • 10-20 participants will receive data packages to support their participation at Wikimania
  • The key outcome is that through the vehicle of Wikimania 2022, the Wikimedia UK community is able to come together. We anticipate that over the course of the two days up to 200 community members will access the content virtually and up to 150 community members and new wikimedians will join us in person. The outcomes achieved will be engaging new community members, new and current community members will have learnt or developed new skills and all attendees will have the opportunity to connect and network with each other, celebrating and sharing in the Wikimedia UK community.
