Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

What worked well?[edit]

  • Call for scholarship applications, review of the scholarship applications, final selection of recipients.
  • Planning for the in person event
  • Managing the scholarship funds
  • Welcoming the Upcountry participants to Bujumbura for wikimania 2022.
  • Communication with the applicants with e-mails and whatsApp group
  • We held a pre wikimania online meeting to brief all wikimania scholarship recipients on what was expected of them during the wikimania conference.
  • The In-person event was with success, all participants attended the event,
  • New members were welcomed and were teached how to writte articles on wikipedia especialy Kirundi wikipedia, how to add photos on wikicommons and on existing articles on wikipedia
  • Sharing of experiences with all participants
  • Participants attended wikimania sessions on the conference days
  • The newcommers received a chance to join our WhatsApp group and kept in touch with us.

What did not work so well?[edit]

  • Because of the bad traffic jams in Bujumbura City caused by the lack of fuel there were days when we started our sessions a little late.
  • We received many people who wanted to participate in person but because of the limited funds we had to work with those who could cover their expenses and worked with those 40 selected.
  • many of our participants had a hard time using the Pheedloop platform, most of the new ones were using it for the first time andand many of them decided to follow the event on youtube.
