Punjabi University has been organizing an education program since 2013 with the help of Punjabi Department. In this program, students doing a Master's degree in Punjabi, upload their assignments work to the website of Punjabi Wikipedia. Dr. Surjit Singh (Professor) teaches the history of Punjabi literature in the first year of the Master of Punjabi, and Punjabi Culture and Folklore in the second year. Since 2013, Students are uploading assignment work of these two papers to Wikipedia. This education program is also the reason why we are associated with Wikipedia. However, this education program is going on since 2013, but we didn't even know that this program could be documented so that we can learn something from it. The first semester in Punjabi University concludes in December and second in April. The assignment work of each semester is completed one month before the end of that semester. Since 2013, new accounts are being opened every year in November and March, and more work is being done than usual. This progress is being run only with the permission of the head of the department. The remaining education programs of India, include the Registrar of the University, etc.
In Punjab, it is not yet much prevailing to obtain knowledge from the internet in the Punjabi language. But with the help of this education program, we can also run Wikipedia's Awareness campaigns. This had already given us new readers. Students no longer need to buy any books for these two papers. We provide them with all the necessary content.
Learning that we want to share:
- How do Punjabi Wikipedia get new readers through this program?
- What are the problems of the editors working in the education program?
- There are some administrative difficulties we want to share with all the education community so that we may have any good solutions with their help.
- Learning about problems faced in workshops organized for the education program
- What were the problems faced by the community in creating new content in the Punjabi language?
- How we introduced new readers to Punjabi Wikipedia by doing syllabus oriented work.
- How does your proposal add knowledge to the international community in Wikimedia and education?
We hope that it will include experienced as well as new editors, running the education program, because the learnings of our education programs are essential for both. Experienced editors will share their solutions by listening to our problems. New editors will learn from our problems like what are the problems that may occur and how those can be taken care of beforehand?
