- Abstract
One of the main peculiarities of the Wikipedia Education Program in Ukraine, as compared to the international community, is a particularly strong involvement of secondary school teachers and students. It has sparked an interesting phenomenon, whereby middle and high school teachers are using Wikipedia and its sister projects for educational purposes no less actively than university professors. Therefore, in my talk, I will discuss the role of secondary education in the Wikipedia Education Program from the perspective of the Ukrainian case study. I will share some interesting details of the Ukrainian experience and will pay particular attention to Wikimedia Ukraine’s experience of preparing a handbook on the use of Wikipedia in educational space for teachers.
- How does your proposal add knowledge to the international community in Wikimedia and education?
- The proposal accumulates the overall experience of Ukrainian Wikipedia Education Program, which might be an interesting case study for the international community, particularly for those educators and Wikimedians who work in the field of secondary education.
- The talk will concentrate on some of the mistakes we made in the Wikipedia Education Program Ukraine & lessons learned. Knowing them will help listeners learn from our experience.
- The talk might be motivating for representatives of the communities where Wiki(p|m)edia education programs have not been created or are only emerging.
- Who is the intended ideal audience for the topic?
Wikimedians working on education, secondary school teachers
- Slides or further information
