Abstract

This lightning talk narrates the story behind the curiosity, anxiousness, bitter-sweet feelings of the proposer as a Wikimedia editor and describes the current efforts as well as the state of arts to create Wikipedia articles with ease. There will be brief highlights on the proposer’s experiences with Wikimedia NG user group as a member, AfLibWk edits, Wikipedia articles, Wiki commons, COI, article deletion, talk page, review, AFC, WP: Scam, Draft/main space move, cleanup, Wiki love tool, good faith and coping with Wikimedia contributions among others. It will also touch on the relevance of Wikipedia friendly spaces, code of conduct policy and the encouragement thereafter. This lighting talk aims to inspire other editors especially librarians with similar experiences on the need to be relentless in their commitment with Wikimedia activities, enrich their knowledge with relevant skills to work effectively on any Wikimedia projects and highlights on the need for polite assistance on Wikimedia spaces. This will be about five to eight minutes’ short talk which will be presented with a maximum of six quick transition slides. Some of the experiences are as seen in the proposer’s user talk page.

Expected outcomes

• Participants will leave inspired on the need to be relentless in their commitment with Wikimedia activities.
• Participants will gain knowledge about few relevant skills also needed by librarians for effective and inclusive participation on Wikimedia projects.
• Participants will depart with more insight on the need for polite assistance on Wikimedia spaces.
• Participants would leave, aware of the feelings and few state of arts relating to some new Wikimedia editors.
