Abstract:
Informal talk where Wikimedians can connect with a Creative Commons expert and team member to ask questions about open licensing, open access to information, open education, and how these issues impact mis-/dis- information. This session can be tailored to the specific interests of the participants, but potential topics include: the impact of AI, the scholarly communication / publishing ecosystem, how CC licenses work and why they’re an important piece of infrastructure for the Wiki community, etc.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to: define open licensing, explain the different Creative Commons license options, explain how open licensing impacts the availability of both high-quality information and mis- / dis-information, and identify resources for how to continue meaningfully engaging in this work moving forward.
