EN: On February 22, 2017 there was a meeting to form a group of Wikipedians in the Burzyansk region of Bashkortostan. Individual sessions and master classes were held to teach new participants how to work on Wikipedia. The questions of increasing the number of members of the wiki club, the creation of the portal of Burzyansk district in Wikipedia were discussed. Another focus of the wiki club was dedicated to involving schoolchildren in Wikipedia. For this purpose we organized field trips to schools, introduced the children to the features of creating and editing articles, methods of working with a tool for content translation. At present, students take an active part in various contests on article creation. A wiki club such as this one will give us an opportunity to involve young people in Wikipedia as well as to raise its’ rating.
- How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of Central and Eastern Europe?
EN: The experience of the Burzyansky Wiki Club can be useful in terms of learning about involvement of young volunteers on Wikipedia. We want to share our experience, and at the same time learn from other wiki clubs for our future work.
