- Abstract (up to 100 words)
For more than a decade, WMCZ has run a number of programs supporting local wiki photographers to obtain free images for Wikimedia projects. For example, almost all Czech villages have been photographed while supported within these programs. Recently, the programs have focused mainly on photographers illustrating Wikidata items, allowing us to engage a large number of diverse users, including newcomers. An integral part of the WMCZ programs is also supporting photographers responding to current events, such as during the South Moravian tornado that occurred last year. Thanks to WMCZ's support, photos from the very next day after the disaster are on Wikipedia.
- How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of Central and Eastern Europe?
During this session, you will learn about the relative success of WMCZ's photography programs and have the opportunity to hear and share experiences in recruiting and retaining active photographers. Last but not least, you will learn how our wiki-photographer documented the aftermath of the devastating South Moravian tornado the day after the disaster, thanks to the support of our program.
