Abstract:
Throughout the years, Wikimedia Serbia has organized a plethora of edit-a-thons and writing campaigns on Serbian Wikipedia to motivate the Serbian community to engage, and to enrich the content about myriad topics. In those attempts, we have gone from organizing local one-day writing campaigns, and regional collaboration to managing international edit-a-thons. In terms of results, we can proudly share that more than 300 participants, from different language versions of Wikipedia, had written and improved over 1000 articles on topics such as Roma history and culture, refugee crisis, human rights, queer topics, etc. How did we manage to go from local to international writing campaigns? What is it like to organize an international edit-a-thon? What are the main challenges in this process, and what can we learn from them? Those are some of the questions that we will tackle in our presentation. |
