What happened in November?

[edit]

Media in Piazza

[edit]

The second edition of Media in Piazza has been held in Locarno, in the new Palacinema the 27th and the 28th October. About 200 12 to 15-year-old children joined the event and Wikimedia CH was present to run a virtual treasure hunt. 12 classroom participated to the Wikimedia workshop together with their teachers. The event has been successful and we received good feedback. The event will replicated also in the 2018. After Lugano and Locarno, the project is to move around again and to have another square in another town of the Italian Switzerland.

Devoxx4kids

[edit]

Devoxx4kids was held in Zurich, its first time in the German-speaking part of Switzerland after previous sessions in Romandie and Ticino. About 30 12 to 15-year-old children joined on December 2nd this event, which was created in collaboration with ETH and Wikimedia CH. Here Wikimedia CH tried for the first time to train students on the technical aspects of Wikimedia projects and not only edition: they were taught how to run a SPARQL query in Wikidata, how to use Visual Editor, and how to find the correct information. Here are some photos about the event.

Wikisource project with the University Library of Geneva completed

[edit]

Yann successfully completed his Wikisource project with the University Library of Geneva. Eventually, the main budget was spent on scanning books through the Library services. All scans can be [found in Commons], already. Some of the books have been completely reread and published on Wikisources:

Announcements

Commons Upload Party

[edit]

You have 1,000 pictures to upload to Commons and never seem to find the time to do so? Come join us at 3PM on Saturday, January 13th in Geneva after the New Year Lunch (or come to the New Year Lunch as well! You are invited!), and catch up. Also, if your new year resolution is learning how to upload an image to Commons, this party is for you, as other volunteers will be able to show you how it's done. Please contact Flor WMCH for further information and registration.

Wikidata workshop for volunteers in Romandie

[edit]

Several volunteers asked for it, so we decided to organize it. A Wikidata initiation workshop will be held in Lausanne on Saturday afternoon, February 24th, 2018. If you are a contributor to Wikimedia's other projects, but want to know more about Wikidata, this is the occasion to learn.

General Assembly 2018

[edit]

Please save the date: WMCH's general assembly will take place on March, 24th in Bern, from 9AM, to 1PM, or later, depending on the topics that will be covered.
