Audience: Affiliates without experience in planning and managing technical projects who want to hire a contractor for one project (e.g. to build a program tool), or who have resources to develop a project within their organisation. Volunteer developers who want to apply for an individual grant.

Description: In this session Toby and Birgit provide an introduction in investigating the scope and requirements of software projects.

Attendees will learn

what needs to be considered when planning a technical project
how to ask the right questions to understand the scope of a project
which stakeholders they need to communicate with
how they can find out if the planned tool would affect community culture/rules
about the different requirements for different technical projects (external tools, gadgets, Mediawiki-extensions ...)
about possible contacts according to their project
about options like community wishlist or individual grant

The session is a first step to enable organisations and individuals to plan and manage technical projects.
