Documentation

Ana Torres

  • Education program to improve Human Rights content of Wikipedia
  • The aim is to scale this across Latin America
  • Problems in measuring the social impact
  • Strong retention

Were there any problems retaining content on WP? - Some policy problems but generally the content is well-researched and supported
Does this make getting other relationships a problem if you are partnering with a controversial organisation? - Not really, the culture in Argentina isn’t antagonistic to human rights as a subject
Did you get media attention? - Yes, and we have had new organisations approach us as a result of this.

Justine Toms (Wikimedians of Bulgaria)

  • Worked with Goethe Inst in Sofia
  • Created diverse content, such as LGBT related content
  • Global Libraries training in 3 cities.
  • Brought librarians from various places for training.
  • She is incorporating Wikipedia into her courses at the New Bulgarian University
  • Hard to turn established Wikipedians into trainers or people that can do outreach

Reda Kerbouche, Wikimedia Algeria

  • Wikimedia Algeria has created a Wiki MOOC in Arabic
  • Lot of registrations from other countries like Sudan
  • Challenges in finding a good standard Arabic speaker

Was the MOOC in French useful for Algeria? - Yes, there were two versions and the one we have produced the same one in Arabic
Do people have tutors to guide them or is it just the MOOC? - There are no tutors, there are five lessons and a test, then the next stage opens. Support can be found via the Facebook group.
Are there good results in terms of article creation? - No, hard stats but 10,000 people passed it so there is potential there
