2021-03-22: WikiGap 2021 edit-a-thon was organized online and 19 new articles are published so far[edit]

On 8th of March we celebrated an International Women Day by organizing our annual event, however this year we had to adjust to a pandemic restriction and shift our meeting to the digital space.

The Opening WikiGap 2021 online edit-a-thon lasted for 3 hours with 1 extra hour for those, who wanted to finalize their work on articles. The event was open both for newcomers, for whom we ensured a lecturers’ support as well as for Wikipedians with experience, who had a dedicated breakout room during our Zoom session.

In total 22 participants subscribed and 20 joined the first WikiGap editaton. We had 4 lecturers, 3 of them were skilled female trainers.

One of the articles, which was written during the WikiGap describes a contemporary philosopher Rosi Braidott, and since its creation, it was viewed already 320 times. Another great example of an important female figure added to Wikipedia is Ľudmila Šapošniková-Aujeská, who was a first female pilot in Czechoslovakia.

On the weekend of 20th March in the afternoon, we ran a second WikiGap 2021. 9 people participated in Zoom online edit-a-ton. The structure was similar - newcomers had support from skilled editors and we summed up the results after 2,5 hours of editing. During the session, one of the articles, which was translated by a new user concerns Zdenka Wiedermannová-Motyčková, teacher, journal editor, and women's rights activist.

Thank you to all, who joined forces with us and participated in events, as well as trainers, who run them. WikiGap is not over yet, the challenge to write articles on women and by women is open until 8th of April. Do not forget to add hashtag #WikiGap2021, so that we will know how many of new texts were created.

2021-03-15: Lecturers' meeting Spring 2021[edit]

We meet with our team of lecturers regularly, twice a year. It was no different in March this year. Due to the overall epidemiological situation, we met again in the online environment on the Zoom platform.

In addition to the traditional news and the planning of the calendar of educational activities of Wikimedia CR, there was also a personal sharing and wishes - who would like to get involved in what and what kind of competences each would like to further develop.

This time the traditional educational block had 2 parts: How to search for suitable materials and examples to demonstrate wiki phenomena in courses (With Vojta Veselý) and a very current topic of interactivity in online space - how to keep the best of physical courses in online courses and how to refresh time spent in online space (with Lucia Schubert).
