Wikimedia México/GLAM Camp NYC
Entre el 19 y el 22 de mayo, pasó el evento de GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) Camp. El propósito principal de este evento fue para cuajar los proyectos varios que hasta la fecha se desrollan más o menos en manera independiente. La meta es crear una systema en linea y presecial para involuncar facilmente nuevos wikimedians y instituciones como parte del movimiento de GLAM y proveer manera establecer contactos entre los particpantes de los varios projectos en varios partes del mundo.
Durante del fin de semana, la mayoria de los esfuerzo se concentran en crear un "point of entry" o puerta principal en línea para que los nuevos wikimedians y instituciones puede fácilmente encontrar las personas y organizaciones (como capítulos) indicadas para empezar a contribuir a Wikipedia y/o otros proyectos. La idea es poner en un lugar todos los recursos que ya están dispersos en varios sitios como Wikipedia en inglés, meta.wikimedia.org y outreach.wikimedia.org.
La página principal ahora es [1] pero todavía es obra en proceso. Durante el fin, se empezó a traducir la página de datos básicos que ahora está aquí [2]. Aunque es muy posible que va a moverse a otro lugar, todavía es importante que Wikimedia México empiezca a traducir páginas como esta. A la Fundación, la participación del mundo latino es importante, y nuestro capitulo puede tener papel muy importante en esto. También, traducir estas páginas es buena manera de aprender como pasa la "sub cultura" de GLAM en Wikimedia y cómo participar nosotros y como podemos acercar las instituciones culturales aquí en México.
From the 19th to the 22nd of May, GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Musuems) Camp occured in New York City. The event was basically a working meeting to coalese what had been relatively independent projects (starting in 2008) in various parts of the world into a single sub-entity within Wikimedia. In this way, new participants, both Wikimedians and cultural institutions, can find easily find information and put themselves into contact with us in order to get involved.
During the weekend, most of the effort was put into creating a "point of entry" online for new Wikimedians and cultural institutions to find people and organizations such as local chapters so that they can get started contributing to Wikipedia and/or other projects. The idea is to put in one place all of the now-separate resources available in English Wikipedia, meta.wikimedia.org and outreach.wikimedia.org
The main page now is [3], but it is still a work in progress. During the weekend, I and some others began to translate a page in English Wikipedia [4] into Spanish. Although it is very possible that it will eventually get moved to somewhere else, it is important that we at Wikimedia México begin translation projects such as this. The participation of the Latin American world is important to the Wikimedia Foundation, and our chapter can have a very important role in making this happen. Also, translating these pages is a good way to learn how the GLAM "sub culture" of Wikimedia is developing and how we can participate and grow GLAM collaborations here in Mexico.
