Wikimedia MKD organization activities[edit]
The beginning of the year started with activities related to the merging of both organizations that form Wikimedia MKD: GLAM Macedonia and Shared Knowledge.
The process of margining both organizations started in November 2023, in terms of administrative procedures. Besides preparation of internal documents needed for the process of forming Wikimedia MKD, representatives of the organization applied to the state authorities for the purposes of official registration of the organization. This process is on-going.
Additionally, January was a busy month for Wikimedia MKD and its members. Among the first activities that were started was rebranding Wikipedia project pages for activities and projects originally organized by GLAM Macedonia and Shared Knowledge, under the new name and with new logo and categories. Moreover, Wikimedia MKD members started opening pages (user group page, reports page, templates and categories) on Meta and the first reports were already started in the beginning of January 2024. Besides these activities, Wikimedia MKD started rebranding social network pages (Facebook pages, websites and mailing lists). GLAM Macedonia and Shared Knowledge’s Facebook pages were merged into one – Wikimedia MKD. GLAM Macedonia’s webpage was cancelled and new one was launched – www.wikimedia.mk All of the content of these sites was updated under the new name, the content refreshed and old posts archived.
At the same time the organization is busy with administrative and state-mandated procedures for official operation of Wikimedia MKD in the Macedonian legal framework.
Wikipedia 23[edit]
Wikimedia and its members and fellow Wikipedians celebrated and marked the 23-rd birthday of Wikipedia on 15 January 2024. The Macedonian Wiki community that could come and celebrate the birthday gathered at Piazza Liberta Bar in Skopje. Wikipedians started come from 19:00 o'clock and the even lasted some 3 hours. The organizers provided snacks and drinks for the Wikipedians, along with a birthday cake specially ordered for this event. Some 25 Wikipedians who could find available time to come were part of the celebration. Many experiences were shared, a lots of good memories related to Wikipedia were evoked and the community members expressed joy for being part of this Wiki-community and this movement. Towards the end of the event, Wikimedia MKD gave certificates to volunteers for participation in Wikimedia MKD projects.
To mark Wikipedia's birthday, Wikimedia MKD, on 15.1.2024, called all users to give a present to Wikipedia. The present itself is writing an article on a free topic. This call was met by 27 Wikipedians who wrote 30 articles and 1 article was significantly improved. The list of participants and their gifts can be seen here.

Editing Days[edit]
Editing days is an activity that lasts for the whole year in organization of Wikimedia MKD. Each Tuesday and Thursday different topics are given and the participants create or improve existing articles. In January 2024 there were in total 9 editing days, where participants edited on different topics in order to enrich the content of Wikipedia. The editing days and the topics were:

- 9.1.2024 - Gymnastics
- 11.1.2024 - Bosniaks
- 16.1.2024 - Churches in Albania
- 18.1.2024 - Hunting
- 23.1.2024 - Skating
- 25.1.2024 - Ministries of Turkey
- 30.1.2024 - Vanilla
Cumulatively, 10 different users took part in these calls and edited. In total, 181 new articles were created and 3 were improved during the editing days in January 2024.
Editing Weekends[edit]
Editing weekends is another project that is organized during the whole year. During weekends (Saturday and Sunday) user are welcomed to take part in this project activity and improve or enrich Macedonian Wikipedia content. During these weekends, the participants are expected to edit articles on given topics. In January 2024 the following editing weekends were organized:
- 6-7 January 2024 - Europe
- 13-14 January 2024 - Armies
- 20-21 January 2024 - Basketball
- 27-28 January 2024 - Dogs
In total, during these weekends there were 7 different users editing on the given topics and they created 133 new articles on the Macedonian Wikipedia.

Wikimedia MKD took part in the international call or editing competition for improving the sources and references in the articles on the Macedonian Wikipedia. The editing competition lasts from 15 January 2024 and ends on 5 February 2024. The editors can edit and participate in the local call (on the Macedonian Wikipedia) or in the region one (Central and Eastern Europe). The rules for participation is that the participants should find articles that have no sources or articles that need further sourcing, then to find appropriate reliable sources and put them in the articles. Awards are planned for the first three most productive participants on the local level and on the regional level.
