Wikimedia Meetup with Whose Knowledge

Meet up in Johanensburg, Rosebank

It was such a joy to see friends from Whose Knowledge again! It felt like no time had passed especially since the last time I saw Anasuya Sengupta and Shamillah Wilson at Wikimania 2018 in Cape Town, we were also introduced to Masana Mulaudzi, who has just joined the Wikimedia Foundation and the energy was so positive and uplifting. We met in Johannesburg, Rosebank and caught up on our lives and shared stories from our work, and it was great to be in the company of such inspiring and passionate people. It was an inspiring reminder of the power of community and how much we can learn from each other.

This meeting provided a platform for us to come together, discuss our work, and for Wikimedians to get to know each other better. It was also important for building a sense of community among Wikimedians and sparked conversations on collaboration, which led to increased trust and better understanding of each others’ work. Finally, the meet up helped in promoting the Wikimedia movement especially to our invited friend Karin from GALA and its causes, which led to an increased awareness of the project and what we are looking to achieve.
