Wikimedia Volunteers Participate in Xposure International Photography Festival
As part of the Wiki exploration Sharjah Phase 1, Wikimedia volunteers participated in the Xposure International Photography Festival held at the Sharjah Expo Center, United Arab Emirates. The event aimed to provide photography workshops and sessions to enhance the participants' photography skills and knowledge.
Macro Photography Session[edit]
On 12th February 2023, the volunteers attended a Macro Photography workshop led by Dileep Anthikkad. The session focused on shooting techniques, camera settings, approaching wildlife, and creating impactful images. The session also discussed wildlife conservation and its importance. Mr. Anthikkad, a renowned wildlife photographer and conservationist, shared his experience of capturing his best images and answered questions from the participants.
A Journey to India with Andy Marty[edit]
Another session attended by the volunteers was on 13th February, titled "A Journey to India with Andy Marty." Led by Andy Marty, the session focused on the importance of photography in inspiring travel and how it enables photographers to represent a destination's culture visually. The session covered various topics, including the bazars of India, landscapes of outback Australia, and the iconic New York City skyline.
Smartphone Photography Session[edit]
Robert Irving led a session on street photography and smartphone photography techniques. He discussed the goals of street photography, the constantly changing nature of street photography, techniques for lighting and composition in street photography, and how to behave as a street photographer. The session also covered the concept of the decisive moment and pre-visualizing the perfect capture.
The Xposure International Photography Festival provided an excellent opportunity for the Wikimedia volunteers to gain knowledge and skills in photography. The sessions and workshops attended by the volunteers will enable them to contribute quality photos to Wikimedia Commons, thereby enhancing the platform's visual content.
