Wikimeet and Workshop of Assamese Wikimedia Community in Majuli, 2023
On the 26th November 2023, the Assamese Wikimedia Community organized a day-long Wikimeet and workshop in Majuli. During the Wikimeet and workshop, the resource persons provided an introduction to the Wikimedia Foundation and Wiki Projects, as well as an initial training session in editing for beginners. They also highlighted various issues and questions related to editing in Wikimedia for currently active members.
Due to not getting the proposed grant for the event the community has decided to contribute from their own to organise the event. Following is the Statement of Collection of Contribution from the community members.
The event started at 9 am and was attended by 15 Wikimedians, experienced and new. The event began with a welcome speech by Wikimedian Nayan Jyoti Nath, an introduction to the members present and a video screening of greetings from experienced Wikimedians who were unable to attend. Another Wikimedian, Dibya Dutta, provided practical training on Assamese Wikisource and answered the queries of the participants. This was followed by a training on the importance of Wikidata and practical editing by Wikimedian Babul Baishya. Wikimedian Pranamika Adhikary detailed her experience of participating in the Wiki Women Camp held in Delhi in October 2023 and the lessons to be learned by the Assamese Wikimedia community from it. Afterwards, Wikimedian Chandan Chiring Phukon explained the importance of Assamese Wikiquote in preservation and digitization of Assamese oral literature and provided practical training. The event ended at 4 pm as scheduled and Wikimedian Rumi Bora thanked everyone and the Assamese Wikimedia community for making the event a success. In the end, participants were presented with Wikimedia Foundation T-shirts, badges and stickers.
