Wikimujeres serves as a constant reference, offering a safe and permanent space for women of all ages to connect within the Wikimedia sphere. Since its inception in 2015, Wikimujeres has been working to train female editors with a gender perspective. Our main goal is to engage more women as contributors across all Wikimedia projects, aiming to reduce the gender gap. That's why we promote a supportive and inclusive environment, strengthening bonds and fostering a sense of community identity.

We recognize the importance of personalized attention to overcome obstacles and facilitate participation. Thus, we strive to support and retain female editors while exploring tools that promote these aspects.

Wikimujeres-Viquidones UPF

Since 2016, we have maintained an offline editing space for Wikimujeres at Pompeu Fabra University. This offline editing space aims to work with students and professors to teach them editing skills, thereby reducing the gender gap on Wikipedia and correcting inequality.

Our purpose is to introduce a gender perspective into encyclopedic articles, reinforcing and expanding content related to women, their biographies, their works, and any other issues related to women's culture, feminisms, gender equality, etc. We have held 17 dialogue and support sessions for female Wikipedians, fostering camaraderie and mutual assistance. We believe that providing continuous support, both in-person and virtually, creates a constant sense of camaraderie. This project requires a weekly investment in community building and health since recruiting, retaining, and motivating people is a challenging task that demands time and personal training investment, which cannot be quantified solely in terms of metrics (see results here). If there were an equivalent metric to calculate the investment in mentoring hours and session preparation, we could better understand the value of Wikimujeres-ViquidonesUPF.

We consider that providing good treatment to new users is fundamental to significantly increasing the number of active female Wikipedians. For this reason, in the offline sessions we hold at Pompeu Fabra University, we focus on the main challenge that newcomers face when starting to edit: how to deal with the community and its countless rules. We aim to inspire greater confidence in Wikipedia and its sister projects by demonstrating the policies that govern the content creation process, such as the neutral point of view, copyright, and criteria for encyclopedic relevance, among others.

Award Creu Casas 'Women to change de World'

On April 23, we received the Creu Casas Award from the Institut d'Estudis catalans with an Honorable Mention for 'Women to Change the World.

Support for Wikipedia Women Editors

Wikimujeres coordinates a support space on Telegram to address day-to-day editing difficulties and answer questions for women who have started editing. The space has 46 members and sees almost daily participation. It also serves as a platform to share experiences from Wikimedia Movement participants in different Latin American countries.

Contributions to the 2030 Strategy

We actively participate in the 2030 Strategy because we believe that decision-making must be equitable, with all voices being heard and considered. Therefore, we emphasize the importance of building an inclusive and diverse movement where decisions are made collaboratively and representatively. For this reason, we think it is essential to empower women to achieve gender equity and representation in Wikimedia. As can be seen on the activities page, we have participated in as many meetings as possible on the 2030 Strategy. We highlight our participation in the Annual Planning Conversations with Maryana Annual Planning Conversations with Maryana, and meetings on Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines revisions Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines revisions, among others. Participation in Defining Hubs

We are particularly interested in how the idea of creating hubs will materialize, so we have been participating in meeting calls to help define what a Hub is. We began with the Global Conversation Event on Regional and Thematic Hubs, Global Conversation Event on Regional and Thematic Hubsand we also participated in the 9 meetings on the future of Iberocoop to determine whether it should become a thematic or regional hub. We want to learn about hubs because we know that our voice and work are necessary, and we don't want to miss this opportunity to contribute to the creation of a Women or Gender Hub, as we believe it will be a fundamental structure for mutual support and capacity building to address our specific needs as editors and strengthen existing connections.

Summit 2022

During Summit 2022, we had a great opportunity to thoroughly work on the 10 recommendations, especially on the second day , where we discussed the concept of hubs and learned about the working process of the MCDC committee. Other Activities

We continued to conduct a workshop Graduate Diploma in Gender and Equality Graduate Diploma in Gender-Based Violence of Universitat Autonoma Barcelona (UAB). Additionally, we organized editathons and workshops Edit-a-thon and workshpos, such as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

We also participated in Akademy-es 2022, an event organized by the KDE community, the world's largest free software community, held in Barcelona.
