Wikipedian Editor Project
Appearance
Wikipedian Editor Project is an Arabic project established in late 2019 with the aim of attracting volunteers for the Arabic Wikipedia, but later on the project’s visions expanded to include all Wikimedia projects, not just Wikipedia.
The project is directed to all Arabic speakers, regardless of their country, since most of its activities are virtual/online, and the project do partnerships according to the topic and purpose of each event.

WikiGap Egypt Edit-a-thon 2020 | Collaboration between users of the Arabic Wikipedia, Wikipedian Editor Project, Wikipedian Light of Knowledge Initiative, the Embassy of Sweden and the American University in Cairo. | Aimed to increase the medical content related to women on Wikipedia by attracting new users, raising awareness of women’s participation, and reducing the gender gap. It started on Monday 13th July 2020, and lasted 24 hours. |
2nd Edition - Wikipedian Editor Project | The activity held in July and August 2020 and included creating articles in the fields of: medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, chemistry, women, psychology, history, and philosophy, in addition to uploading images to Commons for those who interested. | |
International Arabic Language Day Workshop | Online workshop on the occasion of International Arabic Language Day. The workshop began on Friday, December 18, and continued for a week until the end of Thursday, December 24 (to take into account the school exams, since most of the participants were students). | |
20th Wikipedia Day Edit-a-thon | Organized by Wikipedian Editor Project, Wikipedian Light of Knowledge Initiative and users of the Arabic Wikipedia. | It was organized to celebrate the 20th Wikipedia Day in Alexandria, the bride of the Mediterranean, and included writing articles about female scientists in the fields of medicine, biology, and viruses. This editathon aims to increase the medical content related to women on Wikipedia, raise awareness of women's participation, and reduce the gender gap. The Editathon was on Friday, 15th January 2021, and continued for 24 hours. |
Archaeological sites documentation workshop | With cooperation with Jupiter Team in the Greek and Roman archeological department of Alexandria Faculty of Art. | The workshop aimed to create and develop articles related to Egyptian archaeological sites in general and Greek and Roman ones in particular, by volunteer and with the support of college professors. The articles were documented with Arabic references and books. The workshop was online (two meetings on the Zoom platform and a follow-up on Facebook) and lasted for two weeks. |
Right For A Health Environment Edit-a-thon. | The editathon was held as a collaboration between the Wikipedian Editor Project, Wikimedia Egypt and the Alexandria Medical Students Scientific Association (ASSA), within the Human Rights Campaign organized by the Wikimedia Foundation in cooperation with the United Nations for Human Rights. | Held online and lasted for a week. |
3rd Edition - Wikipedian Editor Project | Was held during August 2021, and was organized by volunteers who participated in previous Wikipedian Editor Project events. Participants created articles in the fields of medicine, women, history, and archaeology. | |

Training sessions for beginners | Within the eighteenth Arabic Wikipedia Day's workshops. | These sessions helped the beginners to publish their first ideal articles through a series of sessions presented in coordination with the Wikipedia Editor Project. The sessions covered editing through both visual editing and source editing. |
Arabic Sounds Workshop 2022 | with the collaboration of acoustics workshop in Arabic Wikipedia | It aimed to record some of Arabic poems, upload those recordings to Wikimedia Commons, and add their links to Wikipedia articles and Wikisource pages. So three Wikimedia projects: Wikipedia, Wikisource, and Wikimedia Commons were involved in the workshop. |
The 19th Arabic Wikipedia Day workshop. | held during the 19th Arabic Wikipedia Day. A week before the event, a friendly meeting was held between some of volunteers in the Arabic community to have a friendy environment between older editors and beginners. During the event, 4 virtual meetings were held throughout the day to answer any problems faced by the volunteers in editing and encourage them to edit more. | |
