Executive Summary This evaluation report provides a comprehensive analysis of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group Community Insights survey. The survey aimed to gather feedback from community members to understand their experiences, challenges, and suggestions for improving the Yoruba Wikipedia project. The insights gained will inform future strategies to enhance community engagement, content quality, and overall user satisfaction. Introduction Background The Yoruba Wikimedians User Group conducted a Community Insights survey to collect valuable feedback from our members. The survey sought to identify key areas of improvement, understand the needs and challenges faced by contributors, and gather suggestions for fostering a more vibrant and active community. Objectives The primary objective of the surveys includes but is not limited to the following. Understand community perspective: Gain a better understanding of the perspectives, experiences, and needs of members of the Yoruba Wikimedia community, including editors, and contributors. Community engagement: Assessment of the level of engagement within the Yoruba Wikimedia community and have a clear understanding of how community members collaborate, communicate, and participate in decision-making processes. Challenges and opportunities: To identify and understand the challenges facing members of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group, and contributors to the Yoruba Wikipedia and related projects. Equity, Inclusion and Diversity: To identified how and to what extent we have bridged the gender gap in our community and to promote equitable access to resources and to promote inclusion. Feedback on programs and activities: Collection of feedback on our programs and activities and to know if our programs and events meet the expectation of our members and participants. Demographic Indicators: to provide up-to-date estimates of key demographic indicators necessary to guide decision-making, resources allocation among others. To gather suggestions for improving the Yoruba Wikipedia project. To inform future strategies for community development and content improvement. It included a mix of multiple-choice questions, Likert scale questions, and open-ended questions to ensure a comprehensive understanding of community members' experiences and opinions. Sampling Sampling procedure A cross-sectional research design was employed to systematically gather data from community members of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group. The sample design aimed for representation and inclusivity, using a systematic sampling approach to select participants. The primary data collection tool was a Google survey form designed for a comprehensive range of perspectives and experiences. The survey exclusively targeted Yoruba Wikimedians User Group members for relevance and specificity. A total of 75 members voluntarily participated, providing a robust dataset. Participation was open to all members, ensuring inclusivity. The collected data underwent thorough analysis to derive meaningful insights and trends, using statistical methods to interpret and present results effectively. The survey focused on understanding community perspectives, assessing engagement levels, identifying challenges and opportunities, promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity, gathering feedback on programs and activities, and obtaining demographic indicators. The survey data exclusively pertained to Yoruba Wikimedians User Group members, ensuring the analysis reflects the community's specific characteristics and needs. Participation was voluntary, and data confidentiality was maintained. The study adhered to ethical standards, ensuring privacy and participants' rights Response rate All members of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group and contributors to the Yoruba Wikipedia and related projects were eligible for the survey. The survey was successfully shared with 80 members of the community through our various closed and opened platforms and a total of 75 members participated yielding a response rate of approximately 94%. he survey ran for a duration of at least 3 months. Out of the 94% of the participants that completed the survey, 58.7% are male and 41.3% are female. Data collection Date of data collection Start End August 2023 December 2023 Data collectors Name Affiliation Yoruba Wikimedians User Group Wikimedia Foundation Data collection note Data collection occurred between August 1, 2023, and December 20, 2023, and was conducted by the Learning and Evaluation team at the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group. The team, consisting of two volunteer members and one paid staff member, was responsible for overseeing the process. The team commenced survey deployment on August 1, encouraging members of the user group to complete the survey. To facilitate participation, internet data was provided to those who did not have access. Throughout the data collection period, the team actively addressed participant inquiries and provided support as needed. Age Range: 50.7% of participants are between the age of 18 to 24, 28% of participants are between the age of 25 to 34, 13.3% of participants are between the age of 35 to 44, and 8% of participants are between the age of 45 to 54 Geographic Distribution: 36% of participants are based in Oyo State, 30.3% of partivipants are based Lagos State, 13.3% are based in Osun State, and others are based in other states.
