2008?[edit]

I would suggest making this a 2008 bid; I don't think we should have Wikimania in the United States twice in a row.--Eloquence 22:13, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have considered this, but have decided for now to leave it in the 2007 bids. First, while it is still early on and everyone, myself included, is still working on their bids, there seems to be a relatively small number of well-developed, comprehensive bids. My goal is to make the bid for Orlando into one of those and offer the selections jury another choice and option. Another factor I also took into consideration is the fact that even though a city in the same continent, country and even time zone may be disadvantaged compared to another city not fitting those criteria, the city still has a strong possibility of winning the bid. We've only had two Wikimanias so far, and if these conferences continue, it is inevitable that two conferences will be held in the same country consecutively. Thus, I felt that offering the jury another selection would do no harm - giving them the option of choosing Orlando is better than not having the option to choose this great city (a little biased, of course ;-) ). Finally, I don't see any harm in offering Orlando as another choice; the only thing that can happen, aside from being chosen, is not being chosen, in which case the bid can easily be moved to the 2008 candidacies and updated when the time comes. specifics?[edit]

Any specific ideas about accomodation or sponsorship? +sj | help with translation |+ 18:28, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually something about which venue you propose would be a very good start. Thank you! notafish }<';> 23:35, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm in the process of finishing this bid description - I'm running a bit behind because of work overload... but I definitely will include more specifics, bid locations, accomodations, and suggestions. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 20:38, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
There's a whole lot more I plan to add - more location venues other than the convention center, etc., but unfortunately I've got to log off for a while - I probably won't be back until after 24:00 UTC today, so I hope that's okay. There's a whole lot more to be written! Thanks. Flcelloguy (A note?) 21:15, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I got a bit more done, but unfortunately am still running behind. Thanks for your understanding; I can do a lot more over the weekend and will work on it Friday afternoon. Sorry for the delay. Flcelloguy (A note?) 02:57, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you[edit]

Thank you to the entire jury for their time and efforts and for considering Orlando, and congratulations to all of the planners of the (so-far) successful bids. I expected nothing to come out of this bid, realizing that it was highly unlikely to be chosen, but I continued, nevertheless, to give the jury the option of selecting this wonderful city. Unfortunately, at times I ran behind in creating this bid; I am simply thankful for the experience and for the jury for considering the location. I am already starting to contact other Wikimedia members in the Orlando region in preparation for a more realistic and (hopefully) more successful bid for Wikimania 2008. Thank you once again for all your dedication, and best wishes for the remaining four cities as well as a successful Wikimania, wherever it may take place.
