Dat is een gewetensvraag, beste Siebrand, en ligt nogal gevoelig. Ik heb een beetje moeite gehad met een van de Engelstaligen te overtuigen van het feit dat ik het niet helemaal (of 'helemaal niet') met zijn opvattingen in deze eens ben. Sinds dat moment doe ik alle vertalingen uit (en soms ook in) het Engels officieus. D.w.z. met hulp van mensen zoals jij die wat meer in de Wikipap te brokkelen hebben ;-) S.I. Ik begrijp niet waar je heen wilt. Vooralsnog lees ik je antwoord op mijn vraag als "nee". Ik verwacht me overigens niet zoveel bezig te houden met vertalen op Meta, anders dan faciliterend. Ik ben naast Nederlandstalige gemeenschapslid namelijk ook Product Manager Localisation voor de Wikimedia Foundation en heb een beroepsmatig belang bij een correct functionerend vertaalsysteem. --Siebrand 22:51, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Deletion

Hi Siebrand. I created this page in error. While I could successfully delete Translations:User:Siebrand/Pagetranslation test/TrivialKey/es I could not delete User:Siebrand/Pagetranslation test/es. The system tells me that the action is reserved for translation admins only. The page translation system cannot and will not allow deletion of compound pages, because they are part of a system. User:Siebrand/Pagetranslation test/es is the systematic translation of User:Siebrand/Pagetranslation test, so it should not be deleted. I don't mind that the page exists. If the translation is incorrect, and you want to fix it, there is a link on User:Siebrand/Pagetranslation test/es that allows you to update it using the translation interface. --Siebrand 12:03, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Siebrand. Sorry for disturbing again.

You are listed as bureaucrat for yi.wiktionary. We've been requested to set a bot flag on that project; but since it has local bureaucrats and the project don't use the standard bot policy we prefer if local users could set the botflag instead of us.

Translation efforts

Hi.

Who would I talk to about the recent translation changes at Meta-Wiki? I just looked at some of this and it seems simply awful. The page titles are awful, the markup is awful, administering and controlling the "translations" is awful, and the documentation is awful (e.g., User:FuzzyBot ← what the hell is this?).

I follow Meta-Wiki somewhat closely and I have no idea what's going on here. Pages are now filled with all sorts of gibberish <-- T:3 --> and the like. I just edited a page (Terms of use-Summary), but can't seem to get it to sync properly. And the whole page title convention is just terrible. Sorry if I came across as short. Have you tried editing Terms of use-Summary? Is there an interface that makes it less horrible? I feel like I'm missing half the picture or something. And is "FuzzyBot" some kind of translator in-joke?

I didn't know that the Translate extension had been enabled here at all until dealing with the Terms of use summary. From what I can tell, it's using HTML comments in wikimarkup with manual indices, it isn't namespaced, it contains obscure references to something Fuzzy, and it adds some kind of magic protection layer to pages that requires a different level of adminship. If I'd known about this before it was enabled, I would've said something then. (I'm also kind of curious who approved it for use here, I would've thought Tim would've said no rather directly.) As it is, it seems to be deployed and in-use and I don't really understand it or like it. Perhaps I don't like it because I don't understand it.... --MZMcBride 05:17, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Technical documentation is at translatewiki:Page_translation. user:FuzzyBot is named after the fuzzy concept of outdated translations in gettext translations. The extension was audited by Roan and Tim did sign off on it. This extension, as well as the functionality has been in use at translatewiki for over five years, a couple of million edits have been made with it; it is not intended to be used by single language English speakers, because they don't translate...

The partitioning using HTML comments is done to keep things flexible for the source page editors. The page translation feature is meant for relatively static pages, like documentation. "translate" open and close tags must be present in unnested, even pairs, otherwise pages do not save. Aggregate pages, or translated pages, are built from untranslated source parts and translated parts or translatable units that are tracked. Outdated parts are clearly marked, and if new units are inserted, or if units are removed, that is immediately processed in the translated pages (or almost immediately because the job queue is used). Translated pages are protected from deletion or editing, because editing them directly would damage the workflow. --Siebrand 23:46, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Stewards/Elections 2012/Guidelines/nl

Hoi Siebrand. Ik zag dat je Stewards/Elections 2012/Guidelines aan het vertalen was in het Nederlands hier. Goed werk! Wel een paar kleine opmerkinkjes: in het begin staat "glabele" in plaats van "globale", er wordt geregeld "gebruiker" genoemd in plaats van "account" (wat beter klopt) en enkele andere benamingen zijn een beetje krom vertaald. Ik weet niet hoe dat vertalen werkt en hoe ver je er mee bent, maar wilde het wel eventjes tegen je zeggen. Met vriendelijke groet, Trijnstel 11:14, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Translation tools

Hi Siebrand, thanks for the ping!

I have been busy with other things, but am very interested in this. I have not done anything to publicize your workshop. I wonder whether it might be better to wait another month or so, and take some time to post it on several noticeboards, so that more people can learn about it? I think publishing it on the main page here at meta, and the "wikimedia forum," would be a good idea -- and maybe on some of the other projects as well. But perhaps we should set a time first? I posted 3 messages around meta, thinking that would reach whomever needed to be reached. It could be no one else cares, or that people think they'll just find out how it works themselves, but so far only you have indicated when you're available. The fundraiser was the best we ever had, both in terms of the amount we collected and in terms of number of translations.
