Requesting copyright permission
I am a Wikipedia user and have created an article on there. I have read on the Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission article, that I should note on this page that I have sent out the fowarding email to the Communications committee "permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org" as the article states, once I had received consent to use images in my article. I am unsure what to do next, and if someone could please message me on my talk page I would greatly appreciate it.

Greasemonkey script for OTRS

I'm mentioning this here since OTRS redirects here. If you have Greasemonkey, you can use this script to move messages to the junk queue. It will display a "junk" link near the top of the page. This is easier than scrolling to the end of the email, selecting the "junk" option on the form and clicking move, and it means you can choose to open the link in a new window or tab if you prefer. It works if you're zoomed in on a ticket since the TicketID needs to be the last thing in the URL. It can be easily adapted to move tickets between different queues. Acronym suggestion

Is this OK here?

If there are newbie paths to a page, as there are to this one, could acronyms please be accompanied by short descriptions? Perhaps conventionally a small table of descriptions for key terms and acronyms would be in order. I think it would often be easy to do and provide a better experience for the reader.

For example, What is the meaning of OTRS??

Try here. HTH HAND —Phil | Talk 12:22, 25 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

translations

Are there also translations of this page availeble? People are asking about what OTRS is all the time :P So if it's oke, I'll make a Dutch translation in a few days. Should I put it on Meta or on nl.wp? (if it doesn't exist yet) Effeietsanders 12:16, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Meta might make more sense since OTRS is not just for Wikipedia, so you want the page aimed at Wikimedians and people from all Dutch language projects. Angela 19:42, 28 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok :) I take this as a "no objection for translation" ;-) I'll put then the lists of users etc in templates, so that the translation doesn't have to be updated all the time... I'll put the translation while i'm working on it on PR_department/nl, so if people want to help, you're welcome :) Effeietsanders 18:45, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mailing list

I think it's got to the point where we need a mailing list to aid communication between OTRS team members. Any thoughts? -- sannse 17:02, 28 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I do agree.
Normally I am for transparency and openess, but since many legal problems are involved in this discussions, probably a closed one will be needed :-( Fantasy 17:10, 28 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Since this page is "Talk:PR department", perhaps the list should be expanded to cover PR issues in general, and not just OTRS related ones. Angela 19:38, 28 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean by "PR Issues in general"? notafish }<';> 00:22, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Press releases and such? Ausir 02:02, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Dealing with the press, including press releases, interviews, requests for comments etc. Angela 06:48, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
I would argue no. I never quite understood why the OTRS page was called PR Department in the first place. OTRS is more of a helpdesk and customer service. It borders on legal, and sometimes also on PR, but the people who are answering OTRS questions are in no way the people who should be discussing PR issues and press releases. Customer service is not PR.notafish }<';> 11:24, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

And we have a mailing list for internal communication in the team? Like "I have no idea who is on xxx queue and isn't", "which queue is the most appropriate for this message? I have no clue" etc. --Aphaia 11:50, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

We do have a mailing list, OTRS-en-l, but right now it's mostly announcements and reminders. Almost all "who's on foo queue" and "which queue for ticket #bar" discussion takes place on the #wikimedia-otrs channel. - jredmond 14:28, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for information. I am not involved into info-en and want a bit different what you showed me. Also I access to IRC not so often, IRC channel is helpful not always. I want a mailinglist all OTRS staff subscribe; some tickets on my queue seems inappropriate from my eyes and most of them were sent to info-en-xx but not all ... and I don't think I need to know all about info-en issues. However I would like to discuss/inform/be informed with other OTRS personnels and mailinglist would be better than talk page, I guess. --Aphaia 04:54, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Permission tickets

At the Commons, there's an image tag, Commons:Template:ConfirmationOTRS, which says that "Permission has been received from the copyright holder ... and evidence of this has been lodged with the Wikimedia Communications committee", and refers to OTRS ticket numbers.

The problem is that there's no way to verify these permission claims. For example, Image:Cratère de Derveni 0052.jpg refers to ticket number 2006022410005908.

Could we please have a publicly-accessible interface to the OTRS "permissions" queue? Thanks, Dbenbenn 07:10, 15 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree that this is a problem for Commons. At the moment people have all variety of dodgy methods for showing their "permission" (user sub/talk pages, category talk pages... nothing). If there was a verifiable system, Commons admins could encourage more people to use the proper system. pfctdayelise 09:01, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
The publicly accessible interface to the permissions queue is the list of people with accounts. Honest. Ask one of us to verify a ticket and we will search the queue and verify this, but it is infeasible to make it generally accessible. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 06:12, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
But that's such a pain. Can some Commons admins apply for access just to this permissions thing? We can make it an RfA-style voting thing. Or you could just give it to our bureaucrats. Something...? pfctdayelise 02:52, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hey, I'm a commons admin, and I'm on OTRS. Ask me. Alphax 09:59, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Alphax. How do you think to create a document of "list of copyright holders who give the WMF permission to use their works" or such and set it on meta or in any appropriate place? --Aphaia 10:03, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

A template on Commons with parameters for "copyright holder" and "ticket number" could do it. BTW, check OTRS/personnel (which should be being filled out soon) to find out who is capable of doing what... Alphax 10:09, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Duh, that's what the current template says. Um... Alphax 09:20, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Queue for archiving abuse related mails

I think that the correspondence with abuse desks and providers in case of spam and TOS violations should be kept somewhere. Any cue? --M/ 22:34, 7 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Other languages.

Is moving tickets with unknown languages, or languages we don't have queses for, to info@ okay, or does it have a better chance staying in info-en?

How about moving to queues where it may be understood: pt to es, dk to no, @.za to nl?

See also Xerox language identifier. -- Jeandré, 2006-08-12t09:48z

Add templates, please

Two templates at OTRS/translation are now ready to use. Please upload them to OTRS. Thank you! --Aphaia 10:28, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please add permissions-it

There are about 2 permissions a day in italian. it would be a good idea to have a queue for them. --Ixitixel 17:08, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Queue for el.wikipedia

I've been in contact with notafish for creating info-el and permissions-el queues for the greek wikipedia. I've sent her an e-mail with real names and e-mails to start the queue but we wait for more than 10 days (probably she is busy). I'm asking for someone else to take care for the creation of this queue. --Geraki 08:02, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Queue created. --Geraki 07:52, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

FYI, I just moved a couple "test" messages from the info-en queue to info-el. - jredmond 18:26, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I saw them. The e-mail address info-el still does not exist. --Geraki 07:52, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Permissions queue

While testing the system, I try to forward some older e-mails to permissions queue but I don't see them anywhere. I sent four e-mails to permissions@wikimedia.org yesterday, but I still don't see them in permissions-el. Are they in permissions queue just waiting for some agent to move them to subqueue or lost completely? If the delay is so big, we'll need to use the info-el address instead. --Geraki 10:41, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Image:George Street Bridge.jpg

Hi, I need to confirm permission for w:Image:George Street Bridge.jpg has been given. Can someone look into it and add an OTRS number to the page? Thanks! 63.80.111.2 19:27, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I cannot find it. Could you please give some more information about the email sent? (date, sender, address used) or send it again? Effeietsanders 19:41, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Request to verify a ticket

Could someone please verify OTRS Ticket#2006082110002647? I noticed a user from the Italian Wikipedia uploaded several images at Commons [1] and want to know if truly he allowed to upload so many images. I am worried that either the copyright holder misunderstood the question, or that the Wikipedia editor uploaded some that were not bound to copyright solely by the artist (especially the album covers, like Image:Cover_hello.jpg, Image:Full albumart.deadwing.jpg, Image:Cover cloudy now.jpg and Image:Cover blackfield single.jpg, between others). Thank you. -- ReyBrujo 19:57, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

He said that " it was ok to him". However, in the email as well fair use, GFDL, NC, ND, SA and BY were mentioned. It is *not* clear which licence is meant. A follow up would be best. To be sure, please ask an italian OTRS'er to check this with the it.wp policies. Effeietsanders 07:48, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Where to ask for commons user?

I can't find whom to contact. I am an administrator on Commons who would like access to the OTRS database. Whom should I ask? / Fred Chess 11:28, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

You can ask here for a specific OTRS number, or contact a commons admin OTRSer - see OTRS/personnel. If you'd like to help out with the OTRS backlog, see OTRS/volunteering. -- Jeandré, 2007-02-10t14:43z
