Abstract Wikipedia/Community:2023-04-21

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
NLG for Wikipedia Abstract – good servant, bad master?

I have the impression that the goal of Abstract Wikipedia is to create a system in which NLG is the driving force. If NLG is to have a major role in the Abstract Wikipedia, then NLG also has weaknesses.

Vocabulary[edit]

What is it like to have an extensive dictionary? At what language level? The user will have to create everything. What is the ratio of investment versus result?

Language idioms[edit]

Phrases, idioms, …

Will a database of some established phrases be created somewhere?

Simply at all, can the text be a mix of automatic versus manual?

The translation does not depend on the language, but also on the environment[edit]

Changing the word[edit]

For example

 This is white as snow.

Elsewhere, they deliberately translate differently, because for others it is more intuitive to use:

 This is white like coconut.

Word with added content[edit]

In Slovak, for example, every village is automatically an administrative part (so this information is not given). But example, in English should add information that there is also an administrative part.

Parameters for words[edit]

What if I want to set somewhere that the word ma should be the link in the generated sentence?

Example (#1):

I live in Slovakia now.

But in another (more link used) wikis, i wanna (#B):

I live in [[Slovakia]] now.

In #B, i wanna a modificied output of term Slovakia.

A user comport:

Group for #A: I wanna a comfort, none WikiFunction call (we don't need).

Group for #B: But we need. So we will we fork.

One word, many meanings Added 2023-04-22[edit]

It will be specified e.g. area in which to use the word?

Questions[edit]

  • Wikipedia (software) is a service, so another (own instance) also uses it. If WikiData is so good, why isn't it a service and they don't want others to "use" this software?
  • Wikidata is a monster (big data in one export; more difficult to view more extensive contents of an item; less intuitive {more frequent use of auxiliary search whisperer}). Should the Abstract Wikipedia also be a monster?
  • Is the intention that Abstract Wikipedia is not only used in Wikimedia?
