Whereas:
  1. Recognizing Wikimedia User Groups is the responsibility of the Affiliations Committee;
  2. On March 5, 2015, Wikimedians of Latvia User Group was recognized as Wikimedia User Group by the Affiliations Committee for a term of 1 year that finished on March 5, 2016;
  3. The affiliation requirements for Wikimedia User Groups include annual renewal based on the annual activities report submitted by the group.
In their first year, Wikimedians of Latvia worked to organize Wikipedians through several events and program initiatives. Their annual activities report highlights coordination of 8 group meetings, initiation of social media, and their first Wiki Loves Monuments event with 66 users participating and 3537 photos uploaded in a contest organized by only 2 users.
In addition, the group has partnered with a number of local agencies who helped to resource and promote a Wiki Marathon 6-month long series of article contests to target content improvements as well as has begun working with the University of Latvia to initiate Education Program activities in their region.
The group participated internationally in various ways including regional cooperations including signature campaigns for freedom of panorama and Free Knowledge Advocacy in the EU and participation at CEE Spring, CEE WikiCamp in Macedonia, CEE Meeting, as well as some joined in the 100wikidays challenge and Wikimedia Eesti’s article contest for Tartu University.
In addition to sharing these highlights the report includes several links and examples along with metrics indicating effort toward evaluation which is also commendable
  1. The current status and work performed by Wikimedians of Latvia User Group have been reviewed by the Affiliations Committee;
  2. They have fulfilled the minimum requirements to retain their status as a Wikimedia User Group;
The Affiliations Committee has determined that the Wikimedia User Group satisfies the requirements for renewal of its status as an affiliate.
Therefore be it resolved that the Wikimedia User Group status of Wikimedians of Latvia User Group is hereby renewed through March 5, 2017.
