This request for micro-funding to Africa Environment has just been submitted by Blessing de Pribug on 24-02-2023 and is awaiting support.

Description[edit]

This is the contribution of Podcasters and journalists through this Edit-a-Thon to the awareness of the populations of rural and urban areas to adopt a more practical ecological behavior. In this Edit-a-thon, which will bring together a dozen Podcasters and journalists, it will first be a question of introducing them to Wikipedia, creating Wiki accounts, then getting them to identify and choose a specific element of the environment on which they will work, produce a script, and record a Podcast in two languages, namely in French and in their mother tongue. The objective is to inform the population about the actions of man that destroy the environment, the problems linked to his actions and to propose actions and attitudes to adopt in order to safeguard the environment.

The Edit-a-thon will take place during one day from 9 am to 5 pm with two short breaks in the morning and afternoon and a lunch break. In the morning we will introduce Wikipedia to the participants, help them to create a Wiki account, then learn how to make contributions on Wikidata and then in the afternoon in two phases, the first one will script the content of the podcasts and the second one will upload the content to Wikidata. After that, everyone will use the social networks to broadcast their podcast. The network will be chosen according to the target; for example, for rural populations, they will be able to use WhatsApp, which is convenient for broadcasting messages in language even to people who can neither read nor write, Facebook, for people who are very active on Facebook and subscribe to their pages, tik tok for the choice of video-podcasts. And so on.

Context[edit]

My request comes in the context of a general and widespread alert of the horrors of global warming around the world. A network of podcasters has recently been formed in Côte d'Ivoire and given that in our tropics, many people pay more attention to audio and video content. It would be a godsend to broadcast useful messages to them through the social networks in vogue. Even the populations in the interior of the country, far from the big cities, will be easily accessible thanks to the aforementioned social networks and especially if the message is transmitted in the language they understand better, there is more chance to reach them and put them to contribution in the safeguard of the environment
